Medical Alert
October 5, 2009

On Saturday, Angleton ISD administrators received information that a Frontier Elementary School teacher was diagnosed with a case of meningitis.  District officials immediately contacted Dr. Leo O’Gorman, Medical Director of the Brazoria County Health Department, who has been in contact with the hospital where the teacher is receiving treatment.

“We are treating this situation with the utmost care and importance,” Superintendent Heath Burns said.  “The health and safety of our students and staff is always a priority, and this is a very sensitive matter that requires our full attention.  Right now our concern is on the wellbeing of our teacher and our focus is on notifying students and their parents about the situation.”

Burns says that parents of all the children in the teacher's class have been notified by school officials, and he advises anyone with questions or concerns to check with his/her private physician or Dr. O’Gorman at the Brazoria County Health Department at 979-864-1484.

At this time, the Brazoria County Health Department does not recommend any prophylactic (preventive) treatment.

“Please join us in wishing our staff member a complete and speedy recovery,” Burns said.
