Golden Cat Activity Pass Available for Senior Citizens

Saturday, August 07, 2010

Angleton ISD is offering its senior citizen residents a chance to sign up for a Golden Cat Activity Pass.  The pass, which is free of charge, will allow senior citizens to attend all public AHS home activities at no cost.  Golden Cat members will be able to go to AHS home plays, music concerts, sporting events and more (dances not included).

Who can sign up for the pass?

·         Any AISD resident 62 years old or older qualifies for the pass.

How does one sign up for the pass?

·         Eligible residents need to come by the Administration Building (1900 North Downing Road) on Monday, August 23 through Thursday, August 26 from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

·         They must bring a picture ID with their date of birth when they come to sign up for their pass.

·         Golden Cat members will have their picture taken for the activity pass, and it will be mailed to them within a few weeks.

What are the guidelines or restrictions?

·         One pass is issued for individual patrons—one per person.

·         Passes do not include special parking privileges, and Wildcat Stadium Senior Citizen Parking Permits are separate and only available to season ticket holders.

·         The pass is non-transferrable and applies only to general admission seating.

·         The pass is only for home activities that are open to the public; dances are not included.

·         Any use of the pass by an individual other than the assigned patron will result in forfeiture of the pass.

starstarAISD Celebrates
Being Exemplary

Friday, July 30, 2010

The Texas Education Agency (TEA) has posted its yearly accountability ratings, and Angleton ISD has taken the top ranking of “Exemplary”.  TEA’s ratings are based on student and school performances on the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS).

“Our students and staff did some pretty amazing things this year, and earning the exemplary rating is just another affirmation of all their hard work,” AISD Superintendent Dr. Patricia Montgomery said.  “I’m so proud of all of the AISD family.”

According to Montgomery, every AISD campus was rated either recognized or exemplary (see below), which is something she attributes to the staff’s willingness to do whatever it takes for their students to be successful in all aspects of school, not just the TAKS.

“The AISD staff is dedicated to providing our students with the best education possible,” she said.  “Our focus wasn’t the rating.  Instead, we looked at what is best for our students and wanted to push excellence in all fields.  The rating is just icing on the cake of a great year of accomplishments.”

Montgomery says that next year the district will continue its commitment to providing quality education in and out of the classroom and that the district will always strive to maintain its tradition of excellence.

“Our goal is to educate the entire student, both in academics and character,” she said.  “Our success comes from our enthusiasm for what we do and for our sincere love of children.  As educators, we are obligated to do our very best, and at AISD we accept nothing less because we know our students are learners today but leaders tomorrow.”

ImmunizationImmunization

2010-2011 Immunizations

The Texas Department of State Health Services is encouraging parents to get their children vaccinated now to avoid the back-to-school rush later this summer.  For the 2010-2011 school year, the requirements will also apply to 1st and 8th graders who did not receive the required vaccines in kindergarten or 7th grade.

“We want parents to plan ahead,’’ Dr. David Lackey, DSHS commissioner, said.  “Schoolchildren should get vaccinated as soon as possible to avoid long wait times at clinics and ensure they are protected before the first day of school.”

With new requirements implemented last year, many physicians’ offices and clinics were overwhelmed last summer by last-minute demand for vaccines.  Children are required to be fully immunized before the 1st day of school.  Last year the Department of Health Services extended the deadline for parents to get their children in compliance with requirements for school attendance.
