Happy Thanksgiving

Wednesday, November 18, 2009

Every year, people look forward to the always popular Thanksgiving tradition known as the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.  Freshman Lauren Smith is no different, except that this year the parade takes on a whole new meaning for her.  Lauren will be performing in the parade’s grand opening production on the world-famous Herald Square.

Lauren, a JV cheerleader at AHS, has been competing in cheerleading for 10 years and was chosen the NCA All-American nominee at camp this summer.  She received a bid through Mike Miller and Associates, producers of the event, and is one of only 1,300 participants chosen from around the country to perform at the special holiday show.

In addition to the performance, Lauren will get a chance to site-see, watch Broadway shows and work with NBC producers.

The parade will be televised on NBC starting at 9:00 a.m. Thanksgiving day, November 26.

Dr. BurnsLetter from Dr. Burns

Dear A-Team:

You may have heard that Abilene ISD named me sole finalist for the position of superintendent.  Abilene is a large city in West Texas, and the district is approximately the 65th largest in Texas.  In short, this is an opportunity that my family must explore.  During the next 21 days, Abilene ISD and I will attempt to finalize contract negotiations and complete our due diligence prior to a potential contract offer and acceptance in early December.

The short of it is that I am likely to be offered a contract in Abilene ISD within a month, and there is likelihood that I will accept the offer.  However, likelihood is not certainty.  Until such time that I have resigned my position in Angleton ISD and our board accepts it, I pledge to remain vigilant in my duties and, as always, to keep the children of Angleton ISD my first priority.

I thank you for your prayers and thoughts as my family and I manage this challenging, saddening and exciting time.

Thank you,

Heath Burns, Ed. D.
Angleton ISD Superintendent
